A valley among the great National Parks of the Alps
Marmots whistling, a mountain goat leaps, an elk appears: Livigno lies between Stelvio National Park (www.stelviopark.it) and the Swiss National Park (www.nationalpark.ch), an immense reserve. On foot, on horseback, by MTB (or even by cabriolet over Stelvio Pass): explore isolated valleys among the pine woods and scented herbs. Groups of up to 50 elk may be spotted in Valle Salient, or deer at Alpe Vago. Alpisella Valley is home to mountain goats, while birdwatchers may well espy a bearded vulture, a golden eagle or a grouse. Alpine Guides are on hand to organise excursions, leaving at dawn in small groups armed with wide-angle lens, tripod, binoculars and patience.
