A ski slope six months long
Long, and lots of snow. That is the prediction for the coming ski season in Livigno, slated to kick off on November 27 with an outdoor concert that will reward the most eager skiers with a great show to mark the official opening.
Six months of guaranteed snow, with spectacular trails raging from easy runs for relaxed cruising in the sun to challenging dives through the trees, like the most recent addition, a black slope named for Livigno's own Giorgio Rocca. This great champion will be involved in the World Championships organization over in Bormio. This year we have also completely renovated the Snow Park at the top of the Mottolino gondola lift, to include all-new obstacles, jumps and safety measures, plus music all around: snowboard heaven!
Well begun is half done
The start of the season offers early bird skiers the year's best snow, plus uncrowded trails for an experience that is at once exhilarating and relaxing. In addition, if you opt for a week or long weekend on the December snow, you enjoy great advantages: cheaper ski pass and special offers at Lungolivigno hotels, where they also receive their free Natur.Card. This card gives the holder access to the bonfire party, night skiing and a ski test that lets them try out the latest in ski technology for 30 minutes, absolutely free. Other activities are available at symbolic rates, such as nighttime sled runs and snowshoe outings, the gourmet festival or an afternoon at Bormio's thermal baths. Natur.Card also gives discounts for the purchase of ski packages that include pass, lessons and equipment rental. Cross-country skiers should know that the early season is Sgambeda season, time for the 42 km international cross-country marathon to be held December 12. The race is one leg of the Open Air circuit, along with the Pedaleda bike race and the Stralivigno run. Lungolivigno has a special offer for cross-country skiers during the Sgambeda.
Getting ready for the Christmas is more fun in Lungolivigno hotels, which offer all the warmth and intimacy of a home, with delicious holiday menus that are respectful of the our guests sporting and fitness needs. Decorations in each room and in the common areas bring cheer as you sit down to traditional winter fare.
Every weekend in December, and daily from the 24th to the 6th of January, the town center is filled with the stalls of the Advent Market - arts and crafts, Christmas decorations and gifts for under the tree.
To all this, add the wonderful snow sculptures of Art in Ice created by ten teams of international artists, and the nativity scenes carved in snow by the people of Livigno themselves in front of their homes in the days before Christmas. Livigno's holidays end with Ghibinet, on January 6, when kids roaming the town with sleds and wagons call out "Bondì Ghibinet" as they peek into homes in search of sweet and presents, gladly given in exchange for their cheerful greetings.
