Word of bicycles
A rickshaw driver in Malaysia; a repair shop in Burkina Faso; a miniscule boat ferrying bicycles, things and people in Nepal; a bike bearing Bruno Sananès, forty-year-old French photographer, appearing in Livigno from 10 August to 10 September 2005. This year Livigno, after No More Violence Against Women in 2004, again brings an exhibition of great emotional impact to the high Alps: World of bicycles, il mondo che pedala. Promoted by the NGO Fratelli dell'Uomo, the show tells the photographic tale of the use of bicycles in the southern hemisphere. Since 1995, Bruno Sananès has trained his lens on men, women and children who have made use of bicycles for work and transport, as well as for pleasure and, lacking telephones, for communication in Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Myanmar, China, Egypt, Morocco, Burkina Faso. The initiative is part of the Re-bicycling campaign, which collects used bikes for donation tocountries struck by the Tsunami. Their commitment is to train young people to become bicycle mechanics, allowing them to open repair shops in their villages once they have learned the trade.
