Ten years have passed since we set off on the great adventure of Art in Ice. Ten long, lovely winters during which the snow has meant more than fun on the beautiful slopes of our valley, more even than the magic of a shining mantle covering the forests and villages. For the last ten winters in Livigno, the snow has become art, modelled by sculptors coming from around the world. They have worked under extreme weather conditions, aware that their works will mutate with the passage of time and the effects of the sun, the wind, the snow and at the end, the rain. Until they disappear entirely. And yet they remain with us, in the photographs of Mario De Biasi published in Neve, Arte, Art in Ice, the volume to be presented by Lungolivigno at the event's tenth anniversary celebration. They also live on in the photos, scale models and sketches that will grace the rooms and common areas of the new Lac Salin, Spa & Mountain Resort, Lungolivigno's latest challenge. It was a race against time that scheduled the grand opening for December, but beaurocratic obstacles have forced us to put off the ribbon-cutting until the coming spring. The snow and the sculptures will be melting by then, and primroses will start to dot the fields.
