Hotel Lac Salin
The plans are ready to go. Next winter, the Hotel Lac Salin will change its look completely. It will be a new hotel, full of comforts and magic, and here is a sneak preview from the architect in charge of the project, Ludwig Pederiva of Pederiva Architectural Studio in Bolzano.
What criteria inspired you in this undertaking?
The hotel's fine position, with good southern exposition and an absence of surrounding buildings, allowed for a radical renovation without demolishing the structure. Giving full value to the light was the guiding criterion in developing the new hotel, and we want it to be a reference point for buildings in this part of town.
How do you imagine the new Lac Salin?
The rooms are spacious, with enough room for living area and large windows full of light. The view from the balconies off each room are unmatched: mountains, woods, ski trails and broad meadows. The heart of the hotel is the hall with a bar for its guests, while the restaurant is divided into various areas in order to create an intimate atmosphere. A temperature-controlled cellar will hold every a wine lover could want. We have dedicated a lot of space to wellness, including a pool with bridges and rock sculptures. There is a sauna and whirlpool area with solarium and sunlamps, plus a gym with massage and body care room. All guests can use the ski storage room, which is heated to dry ski boots, or hiking boot in summer. Bike lovers have bicycle storage space with a repair bench.
What materials did you choose?
Wood and marble for the structure, wool and cotton for the furnishings, with special attention to respect for the environment. We will favor materials that do not upset the natural balance and which have low impact in terms of disposal or recycling. Another very important aspect is energy savings, even if it is invisible to the customer. Insulation, heating and air conditioning, heat recovery, independent heating control for every room and linked to presence in the room are all factors that greatly affect energy consumption. In addition to economic savings, this also affects environmental resource availability today and in the tomorrow.
And what was the philosophy behind it all?
The challenge was to manage to design a hotel that conveys positive emotions and states of mind to the guest. After relaxing, recharging and refreshing themselves, the customer in the new Lac Salin must be moved by the urge to come back again.
